Bangalore: Delhi based eSy Distribution has picked AMD processors to power its extended ePC range. According to GS Paul, CEO of the company, "The AMD powered ePC would be priced at Rs 27,000 and will be available from April. eSys plans to sell 3000 units by June in South India, and has a target of 500 units for the month of March."

As of now, the ePCs come with Via 800 MHz processors running Linux at an all-time low price of Rs 10,000.

AMD Country Manager, Sanjeev Keskar said that the PCs would use Athlon processors that run at 1 GHz and above, but he declined to confirm whether the PCs will have Athlon XP or Athlon Thunderbird processors.

"We are very happy with the growing OEM support AMD has been getting," said Mr Keskar. eSys now joins HP, HCL and Wipro in partnering with AMD.

AMD is quite strong in the consumer segment and this tie-up will help AMD push their presence in SME, education and corporate segments also, he said.

The ePC ranges of PCs were launched in North India in October and will be available in South India today onwards. eSys has planned a series of road shows in some southern cities for this.

Though the ePC range shot into limelight for the sub-10k price tag it came with, eSys isn’t entirely focused on low-cost machines running Linux. The buyer has the choice to opt for any processor and any OS he wants–so the price will go up. There’s even an option to opt for a Canon printer, for which the buyer has to pay about Rs 3,100 extra.
