NEW DELHI, INDIA: Essar and Loop Telecom promoters failed to appear before the special 2G scam trial judge O.P. Saini today.

The lawyers defending Essar's Ravi Ruia and Anshuman Ruia, as well as Loop's I.P. Khaitan and Kiran Khaitan stated that the accused are NRIs and have their permanent residence in Dubai.

The special CBI trial court has sent summons to their New Delhi residences last month, but could not get them delivered physically. Both Essar and Loop have been accused of criminal conspiracy to get the 2G spectrum license.

On January 24, the Delhi High Court asked them to seek a direction from the Supreme Court whether the charges against Ruais and Khaitans could be heard by CBI special trial court or magistrate on their alleged involvement in the scam.
