BANGALORE: Epson India took a bold step towards countering the problem of sale of fake Epson cartridges. On July 22, 2002, a raid was conducted at Fort and Andheri areas in Mumbai simultaneously. A total of eight shops were identified and confirmed as selling counterfeit Epson cartridges. During the raid a total of 829 counterfeit ink cartridges of Epson worth Rs 7.7 lakh were seized.

Epson India had, earlier this year, issued a series of Caution Notice advertisements warning those dealing in the business of counterfeit cartridges. Epson India is also taking active steps in educating customers of the ill effects and disadvantages of using fake cartridges, the most common of which include print head failure, loss of warranty and high cost of replacement.
