Epson announces winners of colour imaging contest

BANGALORE, INDIA: Epson Corporation, a provider in imaging solutions, announced on Thursday the winners of this year's Epson Colour Imaging Contest.

An annual contest that seeks to support the development of a new era in the culture of digital expression, has been going on across the Asia region since 1994 and has invited participants from India since the last 5 years, said a press release.

A total of 64 photographic and graphic works were selected (53 from Japan and 11 from other countries and territories) from among 10,956 entries (9,416 in the photography category; 1,540 in graphics) for the Asia Region and S E Region Awards this year, it added.

A total of 1381 entries were received from India for the contest this year of which, the entries by Muhammed Safi of Malapuram in Kerala, titled “Window View”, “End of the Journey”, “Alone”, “Sacred Heart”, “Waiting with Dark” and “Untitled” (6 entries considered 1 Series) was awarded a Runner-up Prize in Level 2-S-E Asia Region (Singapore) Award category.

As a Runner-up Muhammed Safi has won a prize comprising a trip to Japan in December 2008 to attend the award ceremony, SG$2,000 and an Epson Stylus Photo 1390 - Inkjet Photo Printer, the release said.

It has planned to give 10 exclusive India Awards this year.

The winners of the India exclusive awards are Nisha Nair, Mumbai who bagged the first place followed by Poras Chaudhary, Panchakula and Partha Pal, Birbhun sharing the second place.

While Satish Bate, Mumbai, Akhter Husain, Mangalore and Jayavardhan Sampath, Chennai shared the third place.

The fourth prize was distributed among Korou Khundrkpam, New Delhi, Cyrus Dastur, Mumbai, Tapas Basu, Kolkata and Durgashankar Mukherjee, Kolkata.

Tushad Talati, head – Brand and Communication at Epson India said, “We found this year that the quality of entries was far better than in previous years. The number of entries was also substantially higher.

He added that they are extremely happy as an Indian has won at the regional level and this is testimony to the fact that they have some fantastic photographers in the country.
