Addressing the session on 'Snapshot 2004' for enterprises at the CIOL C-Change event, he said that mobility is given a serious thought by enterprises as affordability has increased with the availability of sub 50K notebooks, zero duty gadgets, affordable finance and insurance schemes and importantly, cheaper bandwidth. All of these factors have enabled the enterprises to consolidate and centralise their business process for web-based delivery and increased customer focus.

He also revealed that Wi-Fi technology will continue to dominate the wireless scene among the enterprise segment as they are cheap and quick. However, he cautioned that Wi-Fi is not a 'totality solution and is definitely not an alternative to other wireless solutions. The technology can only be used as a complement to LAN solutions.

As a result, interest in Wi-Fi technology growing across the country and Wi-Fi spots are mushrooming across the landscape. All the devices including the notebooks are now available with Wi-Fi integration. However regulatory issues are blocking its mass usage, he said.

He also revealed that Security will again take center stage among the enterprise segment and for now perimeter security is not enough but security inside will be the mantra for them.
