Enterprise Linux 3 in India by Dec end

MUMBAI: Red Hat India, a subsidiary of Red Hat, of open source technologies including Linux, has announced that it will make available Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3, the platform, which will debut with a new 'Open Source Architecture', by the end of December 2003.

Under this new technology direction, the company will create a comprehensive and flexible enterprise architecture driven by open source technology - Open Source Architecture. Delivering components of the Open Source Architecture through a phased approach, Red Hat will extend the value of open source beyond the operating system further up the solution stack with a portfolio of optional layered products for all aspects of an enterprise.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 includes numerous features like native POSIX Threading Library, support for larger SMP, memory and I/O configurations, single code base and seven supported hardware architectures. The new Open Source Architecture will allow for two additional layers of middleware & application environments. ‘Red Hat Applications’ will also be made available. Red Hat Cluster Suite, Red Hat Developer Suite, Red Hat Portal Server & Red Hat Content Management System will make up the solution stack on the Red Hat Enterprise Linux Platform.

According to the company, the new Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 comprises of Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS (for database/CRM, mission-critical applications), Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES (edge-of-network applications such as file/print, mail and web servers) and Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS (enterprise desktop and technical workstation). It will be available in 10 international languages.

Red Hat Global Learning Services are also available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3. Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 is available as a part of an annual subscription that includes Red Hat Network and support services.
