Enterasys to focus on security, availability and mobility

BANGALORE: Enterasys, a US based networking company, as part of its new strategy would be focusing on the aspects of Security, Availability and Mobility (SAM) in India. The company feels that the three aspects have assumed immense importance in today’s environment and with the growth in technology these aspects need to be addressed more efficiently and effectively. These three factors are expected to contribute at least 10% to the total revenue of the company in India.

According to Uday Birje, Country Manager, India & SAARC Region, Enterasys Networks, SAM have assumed utmost importance in today’s world especially after security concerns and the need to be accessible at any location at any particular time. He said that this has prompted Enterasys to make deeper inroads in to the SAM aspects.

The company has already launched and is in the process of launching many new products to address the SAM factors thoroughly, informed Birje. Explaining about Security, Birje said that it is of utmost importance be it in the government, education or the media field where there is an urgent need to secure large networks and to prevent their unauthorized usage.

With regard to the aspect of availability, Birje said that network availability is of critical importance as even a failure by a second may lead to a major debacle. Similarly explaining about the third aspect of mobility, Birje remarked that there has been a tremendous change in the wireless technology and many new products have come up which are addressing these factors like never before.

Birje said that in order to address the security aspect Enterasys is in the process of coming up with Intrusion Detection System Solutions which are a series of network security monitoring solutions consisting of three separate tools, the Dragon Sensor, Dragon Squire and the Dragon Server respectively.

The Dragon Sensor is a sophisticated intrusion detection system which after detecting an intrusion can send e-mail alerts and subsequently can take action to stop the event and record it for future forensic analysis. Similarly the Dragon Squire has the capacity to observe system logs for evidence of malicious or suspicious application activity and in monitoring key system files for evidence of tampering.

The third tool i.e. the Dragon Server has the capability to manage multiple Dragon Sensors and Dragon Squire engines and includes visualization, correlation and alerting capabilities. In order to address the mobility aspect Enterasys has come up with a Roamabout Point-to-Point and Point-to-Multipoint outdoor solution, which is based on the wireless technology.

Birje informed that recently the government has done away with the policy of obtaining licenses for implementing a Wireless Local Area Network Solution that in turn would prompt people to implement more and more of such solutions on a larger scale.



The company has also come up with a new product, which combines the aspects of security and availability.

The new product X-Pedition Security Router 1805 has IP router features, broad range of WAN interfaces, site-to-site and remote access VPN and policy-managed distributed firewalling.
