BANGALORE: The Enron Corporation is getting into the IT business and will begin to trade in bandwidths internationally, as well as set up fibre optic and satellite networks. According to Enron India CEO Sanjay Bhatnagar, they will also be doing the same in India and open data centres. The company has a broad band network in 18 cities in the US.
Mr. Bhatnagar said broadband networks were the infrastructure in e- business. Speaking at a special session on e-commerce at the US investment summit, he said detailed plans of Enron's information technology foray would be announced in 30 days. He also said the investment in bandwidths would be considerable but not as much as they had invested in the power sector.
Explaining the concept, Mr Bhatnagar said a large number of companies had spare capacity in bandwidths. Others could trade this spare capacity for use. He said the company would be ready for this in six to eight month's time.
