EmpowerTel, LG Soft float new telecom company

BANGALORE: EmpowerTel Networks and LG Soft India Pvt. Ltd. have signed an MoU to float LG EmpowerTel Pvt. Ltd., a joint venture for offering end-to-end VoIP (Voice over IP) solutions for the telecommunications industry. Under the MoU, LG Soft will pool its resources and market experience for co-development of enhancements to EmpowerTel’s award winning, USX1000 VoIP switch. The switch is priced at $150,000.



The new company will set up an advanced, next generation networks R&D lab in Bangalore at an initial investment of US $2 million. The R&D lab, expected to be operational by July, 2000, will undertake core software development and product integration of the USX1000 VoIP switch with LG’s class 4/5 switches, IP-PBX, VoIP routers, VoIP Integrated Access Devices and IP phones.



EmpowerTel Networks chairman and CEO Ajit Medhekar said that with their leading edge USX1000 VoIP technology and the proven marketing expertise of LG, telephony service providers in Asia can expect to be among the first in the world to deliver the benefits of IP-based solutions to their customers.
