EMC'S Innovation Conference comes to India

BANGALORE, INDIA: Leading provider of information infrastructure solutions, EMC, has held its third annual Innovation Conference in its newly inaugurated India’s Center of Excellence in Bangalore today. This for the first time it is being held in India, since the inception of this conference.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the conference, Sarv Saravanan, vice president and managing director of India Center of Excellence, said the conference is a platform for employees to present fresh and innovative ideas at EMC and this year it is being conducted in India as a reflection of growing maturity and contribution of the India COE to the global R&D efforts and innovation at EMC.

He said, “We have a long tradition of innovation, and India is a very strong contributor in this direction. India COE contributed the largest number of ideas this year. Around 617 ideas were submitted out of a total of more than 1400 ideas registered globally. Of this around 41 reached to semi-final stage and six out them were selected in the final list, out of 30 ideas that made to the finals.”

Saravanan said this follows two successful years in 2007 and 2008 when India COE submitted the largest number of ideas outside of US within EMC.

“The Ideas, selected were Real Time Metrics-Watch using, distributed system management and monitoring framework, extension of RSA data leakage prevention content analysis, intelligence injection in documents to establish logical relations, smart way to access email and internal network securely and product usage pattern analytics.”

Talking about innovation and significance of the Innovation Conference at EMC, Jeffrey M .Nick, senior vice president and chief technology officer, EMC, highlighted that the ideas are intended to deliver value today, while developing a vision for the future. Like at EMC, some of the promising trends in the sector are seen as virtual data center, cloud computing, virtual clients (desktops) and virtual appliances.

The EMC’s Innovation Conference is a company-wide competition to encourage employees to present fresh and innovative ideas across the company. In the evaluation process of the ideas, all the entries are submitted and voted.

The 100 semifinalist are selected by voting and selection team consisting of the company’s fellow and distinguished engineers and partially by the research analyst team. The team narrows down the semifinalists to 30 finalist and out these best ideas are chosen and identified.
