EMC unveils Web content management software

BANGALORE: EMC Corporation, leader in information management and storage, announced EMC Documentum Page Builder – next-generation web content management (WCM) software that simplifies the creation, management and deployment of corporate websites. The new offering enables enterprises to lower website development costs and drive more alignment between business objectives and customers.

"Historically, creating or modifying websites has proven to be an exhaustive and expensive undertaking, often requiring significant IT involvement," said Balaji Yelamanchili, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Content Management & Archiving, EMC Corporation, "Business users have little or no control over the layout, content and functionality, resulting in websites that lack a targeted customer experience and fail to meet business goals."

Yelamanchili added, "Documentum Page Builder was designed with a new level of ease for these non-technical business users. It simplifies the process of creating, managing and deploying websites, empowering business users to be more involved and have more control over web content."

Documentum page builder offers a variety of features that go beyond traditional WCM technologies. It includes a new graphical user interface (GUI) that improves design and site layout, a component-based approach that allows users to reuse static or dynamic components such as a header, footer or navigation to quickly assembly web pages, Easier site view and editing capabilities to reduce time spent searching for content

Support for Macromedia Dreamweaver templates for easier importing to and used by Web Publisher Page Builder, XML support of layout and content to provide schema validation, efficient parsing and processing, and rendering to multiple markup languages.

The new product from EMC enables enterprises to substantially reduce costs, speed time-to-market for new business initiatives and improve overall web-based communication effectiveness. It also enables Page Builder to takes advantage of all content, process and repository services including multimedia services for managing and editing images and business process management for extending workflows beyond the content management system.

Melissa Webster, program director for content technologies & digital media with independent research firm IDC said, "One of the burning issues in web content management is simplicity and ease-of-use for the non-technical people who are increasingly tasked with managing web content. The new WCM features offered by EMC are the kind of instant enablers that make it easy for business users to take part in the web publishing process on top of a proven, scalable ECM platform."

According to company release EMC Documentum Page Builder will be available later this year and prices may vary by configuration.
