CHENNAI: The Software Technology Park of India (STPI), in collaboration with
Stanford University, USA, has started a survey on the IT industry in India, its
expertise, the utilization of its manpower, the issues and the problems involved
and ways to overcome that. This was disclosed by sSTPI Chennai director R
Rajalakshmi.
It would cover all the 20 STPI centers that have about 6,000 companies under
their umbrella. The study will be ready by the end of October. This was conveyed
at a press conference announcing a seminar titled 'Bulletproof your future' for
IT professionals, jointly organized by STPI Chennai and Aithent Technologies, a
global IT solutions provider.
"Though orders from the US seem to have dried up, countries such as
Japan, Brazil, Germany and Sri Lanka are looking at India. But they are looking
at people with skills in the high-end technology area. So IT professionals would
do well to equip themselves with skills in the embedded systems and the
like," Rajalakshmi added.
The executive vice president of Aithent Technologies, B Ramakrishnan said
that IT professionals in India did not have the requisite business knowledge for
developing solutions for various businesses. "Our Chennai office has a
capacity to house 150 professionals, but there were only four people who met our
requirements. Lack of business domain knowledge in professionals coming out of
institutes is becoming the bane of the industry. A drastic course correction
needs to be done by the IT industry in this regard."
Aithent Technologies, which is based in US, has a global development unit in
Delhi and Chennai.
