BANGALORE: Embedded computing leader Force Computers, a subsidiary of the
world’s largest manufacturing services firm, Solectron Corporation, has
formally opened their new India Design Center in Bangalore on Monday.
Addressing a press conference, Force president and CEO Ajay Shah said the
expanding market for specialized computers for telecom, datacom, medical and
other embedded applications had presented a tremendous market for the firm. The
new center would provide us with significantly increased capabilities to expand
our technology and product offerings to our customers worldwide, he added.
The company has seven units all over the world. Force has around 50 employees
in the India center and expects to " double the number in a year or
so." Spread over 22,000 sqft, this facility has the latest equipment and
tools in addition to a complete testing chamber. The total investment in the
Indian engineering arm is over Rs 50 million.
"The Indian subsidiary already has to its credit over 120 designs and
product-level integration in the embedded area for a number of Fortune 500
companies in diverse industries, particularly the telecom sector. Considering
the wealth of technological talent available in Bangalore, we will also look for
opportunities to develop partnerships with other specialized technology
developers", added vice-president & General Manager, Force Computers
Inc, Chris Williams.
Digital India CEO Som Mittal inaugurated the center. Founded in 1981, Force
Computers is a designer and supplier of standard and custom systems and
board-level computer platforms and services for the embedded market.
The processor-independent company helps its customers develop embedded
applications based on Alpha, MIPS, Pentium, PowerPC, PowerQUICC, SPARC,
StrongARM and 68K technologies for embedded UNIX, Linux, Windows NT and
real-time applications. Force supports VME, CompactPCI, PCI, PCI/ISA and PMC bus
architectures, as well as custom form factors. Force’s corporate headquarters
and Asia Pacific unit is located in SanJose, California.
