RALEIGH, N.C.: GFI Software has introduced the latest version of its email management and archiving software 'GFI MailArchiver 6.1' in order to help small and medium size businesses (SMBs) manage and archive their email more easily and affordably.

A first-choice product to more than 10,000 SMBs, the new version of the software manages and archives all company email, reduces dependency on troublesome PST files and the need to manage these files, and allows an organization's employees to access their own old and deleted emails at any time and from any location. Also, the software is now available in Spanish, Italian and German.

The latest version of GFI MailArchiver 6.1 extends the functionality of its Outlook Connector to allow users to access archived email from within their Outlook email client even when not connected to the network. This new feature gives users the functionality to access an administrator-configurable (default 30 days) amount of emails that are cached on the client.

Unlike PST files which are hard to manage and can be corrupted resulting in email loss, the cache that is created on the client's side can be completely rebuilt and is managed automatically by GFI MailArchiver 6.1. Additionally, users benefit from a near 'unlimited' mailbox because the software archives email in an SQL database and not on Exchange.

With GFI MailArchiver 6.1, emails are stored in a central database, reducing storage needs on the email server as well as the need for PST files to archive emails. With fewer storage demands, a smaller Exchange store, and no stub files left on the server, administrators will notice a marked increase in performance.

Further, the software ensures that all stored corporate emails are tamper proof and accessible within minutes if required for legal or compliance reasons.

"Many of our customers expressed problems with affordably managing their ever-growing mailboxes while also ensuring compliance with data retention policies," said Walter Scott, CEO, GFI Software. "With an excellent feature set, localization into Italian, Spanish and German, and affordable price tag, GFI MailArchiver 6.1 was designed specifically for SMBs looking to manage and archive their email as well as meet the ever-growing number of legal and compliance requirements."

For businesses around the world, email has become the primary means of communication, yet many still underestimate the need to archive email correspondence. Research carried out by GFI Software in the United Kingdom in March 2009 found that only 41 percent of SMBs have rules stating where emails should be stored.

Furthermore, 50 percent respondents showed a serious lack of awareness of the important legislative and compliance changes in this area over the past five years and the increased risk of liability if they do not archive emails.
