Even over 20-25 years back, Karnataka had an edge on Technology work within India.  To take this leadership position further, KEONICS set-up Electronics City in last 80’s.  First unit started functioning in Electronics City in early 90’s.

Industries operating in Electronics City had many common interests/issues to be addressed.  They came together to form ELCIA (Electronics City Industries’ Association) in 1992 and KEONICS handed over the maintenance of Electronics City to ELCIA in July 1997. Considering successful management of Phase I, maintenance of Phase II was handed to ELCIA during January 2009.

Captains of E-City industry Mr. Narayana Murthy, Mr. Som Mittal, Mr. Sudip Banarjee, Mr. Mohandas Pai, Mr. Kiron Shah, Mr. B.V. Naidu,Mr. M.V. Nagaraj and several others laid strong foundation for the Association.

Objectives: To provide quality service to E-City in maintenance and security to the satisfaction of member industries

ELCIA is responsible for maintenance of roads, ensuring water supply, street lighting, sewage and waste disposal, improvement of commute of people and security.

Representatives of the member companies elect the Executive Committee, which is the apex body for ELCIA.  This Executive committee headed by President draws up the objectives and allocation of budget.The activities of ELCIA are funded by member companies and executed by ELCIA office headed by CEO.  ELCIA is the voice of all the member companies from e-city infrastructure and governance perspective.  ELCIA interfaces with the Govt to get improvements in E-City for the benefit of member companies. ELCIA has performed all the duties of a municipal corporation except collecting taxes and plan approval.

ELCIA is running the estate which employs over 100,000 people and contributes …. Billions to the economy of the country.E-City has played a major role in putting Bangalore on world map like:

1.Roads in around e-city

This started when NR Narayana Murthy of Infosys and Azim Premji of Wipro along Industry captains got down to work on Hosur road as the Hosur road commute was miserable during early 90s.

Over the years ELCIA has displayed collective strength is enhancing the access roads including the Elevated road - pride of city.

2.Other common amenities

ELCIA was instrumental  for the following amenities in e-city :Police Station, Fire Station, Health Care Centre, Dental Care Centre,  Banks, Creche, Bangalore One

3.Maintenance of E-City

ELCIA employs people around e-city to maintain e-city clean and green.

ELCIA, with the help of BWSSB Chairman was instrumental in getting water to e-city.

In addition bore well water is also supplied to member companies.

Street lighting, Sewage disposal and waste disposal is also managed by ELCIA.

4.Transport

ELCIA has worked with BMTC to increase public transport.Around 40% of employees are using public transport. ELCIA has followed-up this project closely with BMRCL, GOK and NHAI authority. Now High Power Committee of Government of Karnataka has approved the project for extending Metro Rail to Bommasandra via Electronics City.

5.Security

ELCIA security team is protecting e-city 24*7.Takes care of emergencies in and around estate.

Enhanced security is provided jointly by CISF, company security and police in the area. All these security forces are ensuring employees can work and move around without any fear.

6.ELCIA Trust

To support needy people around Electronics City, ELCIA Trust, the Social Investment wing of ELCIA was established.

ELCIA Trust started with mid-day meals for one school near e-city.  It adopted the Akshya Patra program and now proudly supports a free mid-day meal for over 5,500 children in the Government Schools around E-city.

ELCIA Trust efforts in creation of new education infrastructure in neighboring villages — 2 schools have been built.Over 1500 samplings planted in every year to make E-City a Green City.ELCIA Trust Providing 60 KL of free drinking water to neighboring villages.ELCIA Trust has played a major role in building the 41 houses for the flood affected people of North Karnataka.
