With the web-based e-commerce use in the Asia Pacific region rising sharply the revenues
from electronic commerce are expected to top $1.3 billion by 2003, said International Data
Corporation (IDC).
E-commerce applications in the region surveyed (excluding Japan), showed revenues from
e-commerce applications rise 104 percent from a year earlier to nearly $ 21 million in
1998.
In 1998, the region saw the start of strong growth for this market, as an increasing
number of organisations and their IT professionals adopted Internet commerce software
products which enables them to do business online, rather than developing their own
Internet e-commerce solutions.
IDC estimated revenues in e-commerce applications via the Internet will rise by 95 percent
from last year to $40.45 million this year and $169.76 million in 2000.
Use of e-commerce in this region is in its initial stages compared to the US or Europe.
