The Meyrin Photovoltaic Application Lab will add new capabilities to the company’s crucial R&D hub by developing next-generation photovoltaic products, DuPont said in a statement.

The new laboratory, according to DuPont, will operate as an open centre that enables technological exchanges and research collaborations between DuPont and its customers, industrial partners, as well as academia and institutes.

The company said the Meyrin Photovoltaic Application Lab has been designed to advance state-of-the-art solar module design and also to deliver cost-effective, high-performance solutions for the photovoltaic industry.

DuPont said its innovative building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) panel system replaces tile or slate roofs. The new system was developed in association with DuPont Performance Polymers, DuPont Building Innovations, and industry partners.

The new system, according to DuPont, betters the ease and speed of installation as well as offers water tightness, high energy-efficiency and excellent aesthetics to the building. In the first phase, the system will be commercialised in France in the first quarter of 2010, and, in the second phase, it will be commercialised in other parts of southern Europe.
