Fans of the late Dr BR Ambedkar, who celebrate his 184th birthday today, will be thrilled to note that their icon has become the third most searched historic figure on Google after Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru, in online popularity.

In terms of search interest from within India, queries on him continues to gain significant search interest from states such as Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh followed by Maharashtra, Delhi, Pondicherry, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Karnataka.

A press note from Google asserts the findings and says, "The search trends reflects his timeless relevance and popularity and shows him to be the 3rd most searched historic personality, after Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru."

With the rise in Internet literacy and digital transformation, India has seen significant interest building up with more people getting on to the internet to gain knowledge about the Indian history and its leaders. Google search trend analysis highlights the significant and continued rise in search interest around Dr Ambedkar both from India and globally over the past decade.

Other personalities in the pantheon of India’s iconic leaders of the 20th century include Subhash Chandra Bose and Vallabhbhai Patel, both of who also figure on Google search trends but rank lower than the previous three leaders.

It must also be noted that Google paid a special tribute to Dr Ambedkar on its homepage with a special Doodle that has appeared across 7 countries and has already garnered over 500,000 hits so far.
