A senior officials from the ministry informed that after the telecom operators wrote to the prime minister over the spectrum allocation, the PMO officials decided to peek into the DoT’s offerings before being presented to the telecom operators on Wednesday.

To end the ongoing tussle over the spectrum allocation the department invited telecom operators for a discussion on Wednesday. The top officials from the telecom companies will attend the meeting.

According to the source the department is likely to bring forward the recommendations submitted by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on the spectrum allocation criteria. The telecom operators are at loggerheads over the report submitted by the Telecom Engineering Center on hiking subscriber linked spectrum allocation criteria from four to 12 times.

The department would also bring in the table, the dual technology permission, opposed by the GSM lobby. The government had earlier permitted operators to offer dual technology services on a single license.
