Donald trump's Twitter account deactivated by an departing employee

President of the US Donald Trump's personal Twitter account(@realDonaldTrump) was deactivated for a period of 11 minutes last night. Trump's account disappeared at around 7 pm ET Thursday when visitors to the page were met with the message, “Sorry, that page doesn't exist!”

Earlier today @realdonaldtrump’s account was inadvertently deactivated due to human error by a Twitter employee. The account was down for 11 minutes, and has since been restored. We are continuing to investigate and are taking steps to prevent this from happening again.

Twitter posted a statement saying that Trump's twitter account was inadvertently deactivated due to human error. "The account was down for 11 minutes, and has since been restored," the statement read. "We are continuing to investigate and are taking steps to prevent this from happening again."

But soon after the company’s @TwitterGov account posted another statement revealing the outage was due to an employee’s action on the final day of his job. The new statement read, “Through our investigation, we have learned that this was done by a Twitter customer support employee who did this on the employee’s last day. We are conducting a full internal review.”

The deactivation also comes at a time when the social network is under scrutiny for the role it played in spreading Russian propaganda during the 2016 presidential election.
