“This is an exciting space and the Indian market is growing at a CAGR of 21 per cent. Besides financial services, telecom, new IT-enabled operational services, manufacturing and government applications would be the key verticals here,” said Kris Hagerman, group president, Data Center Management for Symantec that now has ICICI and Bharti as key customers.

He stressed that complexity of managing data centers and heterogeneous environments are two major customer concern areas and Symantec’s new offerings would address these issues comprehensively.

“While most vendor tools work under different platforms, a data center foundation from Symantec would standardize a single layer that runs on multiple platforms. This solution would also ensure significant cost savings on training, performance and effectiveness,” he claimed.

In response to a question on proprietary issues vis-à-vis inter-component integration, he revealed that Symantec has inked long-term reciprocal arrangements with various vendors like Microsoft and HP for the same.

Hagerman was here to announce the release of Veritas Application Director and Veritas Patch Manager. The former is considered to be the industry’s only solution for maximizing server utilization and application availability across multi-tiered applications among heterogeneous physical and virtual environments.

Patch Manager would offer patch management and distribution function to existing operating systems and application provisioning capabilities.

The company houses 800 people out of its 2000 talent pool for Data Center Group in Pune. A possible ramp-up on headcount is imminent in the next few years and Pune development team would be a focus area for the same.
