‘Do Not Call’ fails to repel Indian BPO

CHENNAI: If you thought the "Do Not Call" issue would bog down the Indian BPO companies hold on. Contrary to the concerns being expressed, the Chennai-based Vetri Software India Ltd thinks that the new regulation would open up new opportunities and the way to it is through Hosted Digital Solutions (HDS).







Vetri, which is currently addressing two process lines — e-publishing and form transaction is getting aggressive on the HDS front along with print and output. The company has already signed up one US based client and is optimistic that HDS will generate good business especially following the National ‘Do Not Call Registry’ to be implemented by the US Federal Trade Commission.







While Vetri Software, Country Head & Vice President for Technology, Ranjit Pisharoty agrees that the new regulation would certainly impact the call centers, which primarily work on outbound calls, he suggests that the solution lies in picking up projects for print or e-mail campaigns. "While the market for voice is bound to shrink due to this regulation, a huge opportunity in data has come up and we are going to tap the new opportunity through our expertise in digitization of document management," he said.







Beside the new opportunity, that the company wants to serve using HDS, Pisharoty is also bullish about HDS because "more companies today want their documents to be digitally stored". Digitization of document management starts from capturing the data, storing and archiving it, followed by retrieval and the output whenever required.







According to Pisharoty, India is a potential market in form transaction processing business. "By the middle of next year we hope to sign up 3-4 major Indian customers in the area of digitizing and data center management," he said adding that the company would be primarily targeting insurance and e-governance segment.







For this year financial year, Vetri is investing half a million dollar in the areas of business continuity and disaster recovery. The company, which has three centers in Chennai and is networked to 62 business associates, also has plans to set up another disaster recovery center in Chennai. The company presently has two disaster centers–one each in China and Mexico.
