DLF CIO sets date with e-Revolution

CHANDIGARH, INDIA: DLF Group CIO Upal Chakraborty confirmed his participation at the forthcoming ICT event e-Revolution. The veteran technology expert will be sharing his views on why ICT is an important tool for effective management and delivery of public services.

Currently the CIO of the DLF Group, Upal has around 29 years of experience as an IT professional of which 21 years has been as the head of IT in multi-location and multi-product environments at various corporate level.

After getting his M.Sc from IIT (Kanpur) and PGDM from IIM (Bangalore), he worked as the CIO of companies in the FMCG sector like Reckitt Benckiser and Pepsico, BPO Sector like Convergys, consumer durables like Sony, and finally made his entry into the realty sector with leading infrastructure building and management company DLF.

Previously, as the vice-president (IT services) of ITC Infotech, Chakraborty was responsible for delivery of IT services to businesses as varied as hospitality (hotels and travel), FMCG (cigarettes and food), paper manufacturing and printing, retail and commodities trading. Apart from his responsibilities as a CIO, he has been intimately involved for the last 10 years as part of senior management in formulating business strategies and growth plans as a member of management committees and reporting to CEOs.

In Reckitt Benckiser, he was responsible for designing and conceiving re-engineered processes enabled through ERP, CRM and business intelligence systems with various factories and selling units connected through state-of-the-art networks.

In Pepsi, he had redefined the entire IT strategy and implemented SAP at all business units including soft drinks and snacks. He has also worked with consultants and service providers like Price Waterhouse, IBM, KPMG, Wipro and SAP in diverse areas like implementation of ERP, outsourcing of IT, formulating IT strategies etc.

With an envious track record of successful entrepreneurship and sustained growth for 62 years, DLF is the undisputed leader in India’s real estate segment. Apart from development of residential, commercial and retail properties, DLF’s foray into infrastructure and SEZ, especially in the ICT sector, has changed the face of the new and emerging India.
