MUMBAI: Discreet’s software, 3D Studio Max has been approved by CBSE for running a vocational course in 3D animation in educational institutions. 3D Studio max is a professional 3D modeling, animation and rendering software for creating visual effects. Pankaj Kedia, Regional Manager - South Asia, Discreet said that the company has been talking to a lot of schools to start animation and web design training as part of their curriculum. "And the response we received was phenomenal. In fact, we expect to sign a few schools by the first week of August", he added.

One reason for this response could be the special price that Discreet is offering to the schools. The sales price of 3D Studio Max is Rs 1.4 lakh, while the educational pack will be sold at Rs 50,000, which is roughly 35 percent of the original price.

Pankaj added that all the sales to the educational segment would be routed through the channel. And to enthuse channels to concentrate on this segment, he is working out special margins for sales made to educational institutions. "Margins for our VARs and resellers vary from 10 to 20 percent. We are working on increasing this margin for resellers who will sell to schools", he said.

Rikku Taksali of RGB Systems has already received good response from National Institute for Fashion Technology, MAAC and National Institute for Design for deployment of the 3D Studio Max in Mumbai. Discreet also recently appointed Aditya Infotech as its distributor for software products.
