KOCHI, INDIA: What is driving digital transformation (DT)?

As per a survey conducted with CChange delegates, 40 percent CIOs said that they have a DT strategy in place; six percent organizations hired a chief digital officer (CDO) and CIOs at 60 percent, still lead the decision making process for DT. The survey also revealed that CEOs are actively involved in DT processes these days.

Pradeep Gupta, CMD, Cybermedia, who compared the Mainframe, PC, dotcom, mobility and e-commerce eras with digital transformation, commented that DT was not a Wave, but a Tsunami.

According to him, the transformation is led by the third platform (social, mobility, analytics and cloud-SMAC). “This is leading to new job roles namely data scientists and chief digital officers, and is also changing business models.”

He cited examples of apps launched by taxis and the changed the business model by BSE after NSE forayed into the market with disruptive technologies.

Gupta also pointed out the digital transformation process can be tied to the PM Narendra Modi’s ambitious digital India as well as Make in India initiatives.

He rounded-up the key note with four key take-aways:

  • Shift focus from IT to business; start and put digital transformation first
  • Assess your organization’s digital readiness?
  • Realign the IT team with the business executives and invest in training people and new skill sets
  • Identify the right vendors and partners.
