HYDERABAD: We heard of mega cities, metro cities then came hitech cities. And, in the age of bits and bytes, the evolution of Digital Cities is no big deal. If the plans of Hyderabad-based Sreemithra Developers Pvt. Ltd were anything to go by, the city would soon witness the birth of 'Digital City' where independent houses in the colony will be connected online to a control room that takes care of the needs of respective houses.

Sreemithra Developers, the first Indian company to get an ISO 9001 certification, is proposing to invest Rs 100 crore in developing this project that will have 300 independent houses on a 40 acre land, 25 km away from Hyderabad. "The residential complex will have a two-layered security system. On the swiping of a smart card at the entry gate and at the entrance of the house a biometric device would be used to authenticate the person entering," said Sreemithra Developers executive director, Y Kiron Kumar.

According to him, the control room acts as the central office. Services like payment of bills, order for gas cylinders, etc. can be rendered at just the press of a button. These independent houses would be furnished with a palm sized telephonic equipment in which the respective service would be given a number and the residents can just press the button which would be conveyed to the control room. Accordingly, the people in the control room would attend to the service need of the residents.

"We are talking to a Singapore-based IT company that can assure foolproof security equipped with electronic gadgetry to make it one of the most hi-fi colonies in the world," informed Kumar. "We are planning to finish the project, by the end of March 2006," he added.
