Did you know Indian govt has 6 lakh job vacancies?

BANGALORE, INDIA: Now a days, getting a job is like achieving a big goal. If you are a graduate and have undying competitive spirit, your quest for good job never fails.

Considering the fact that India tops in population growth rate, the percentage of job openings for unemployed youths is also growing simultaneously.

Yes, the mission to get a good job in either private or government sector is a big task for unemployed youths. But there is hope if you believe  V. Narayanaswamy, Minister of State in the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pension. According to him the total number of vacancies in Central government as on March 1, 2011 was 581,591.

"As per available information, the details of number of sanctioned posts, number in positions and vacancies in Central Government posts as on 1st March, 2011 was 581,591," he said, in response to a question at the Lok Sabha.

According to Narayanaswamy, total number of sanctioned posts for all three groups - Group A, Group B and Group C - were 3,663,529 and total number in position was 3,081,938.

The remaining 581,591 are total number of vacant posts, he said.

Sharing views on the announcement on government vacancies, Hemanth, who just completed his engineering from a reputed institute in Bangalore, said: "Although I completed my engineering in civil and got good results in my final year, I am still searching for a secured job. Given an option, I will always choose a government job compared to a private one."

The options are very less compared to earlier days and now I am ready to relocate to any place in India to get a job, he said. He further added, "I am surprised to hear such a huge number of jobs in Central government and I will be one among them to apply for it."

According to a recent report by IAMR on Joblessness and Informalization: Challenges to Inclusive Growth in India, "Total employment in manufacturing in India increased from 44 million in 1999-2000 to 55 million in 2004-05, falling to 51 million by 2009-10."

Narayanaswamy further added that the details of vacancies in respect of reserved posts and details of backlog vacancies in Central Government departments are not centrally maintained.

Highlighting the provisions of the Recruitment Rules, Narayanaswamy said, "The vacancies are filled as per the provisions of the Recruitment Rules and if Recruitment Rules permit lateral entry, the backlog vacancies may also be filled through the lateral entry route."
