BANGALORE: Nasscom president Dewang Mehta, the single most popular
personality who played a key role in the success of the Indian software sector,
has passed away. According to media reports, Dewang, 38, had a heart attack in
his hotel room in Australia, where he was on tour with Union Minister for
Information Technology Pramod Mahajan to promote Indian software industry.
The National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) was
heading a delegation of 17 Indian information technology companies for a series
of networking seminars in Australia in order to meet its target. "The
significance of the networking events is to provide a better platform for Indian
and Australian firms to increase collaboration in the IT sector," the
Nasscom president had said, while signing an agreement with the Australian
Information Industry Association, recently.
