BANGALORE, INDIA: Even though there were some welcome aspects in the Union Budget 2012, overall it was disappointing, said Ganesh Lakshminarayanan, president and managing director of Dell India.

During his one-day stint as the Guest Editor of CIOL on Thursday, he opened up about his views on the government’s policies for the IT sector. "There are positives, such as infrastructure funding and more clarity on service tax. But we were hoping some more good things would come out of the Budget," said Lakshminarayanan, adding, "We worked closely with the government to make businesses easier.''

He is a member of the NASSCOM Executive Council that gave a set of recommendations to the Centre before the Budget was presented. So, "it is disappointing," he said.

Lakshminarayanan added that there was no other industry that had generated so much of opportunities for youngsters. "Unlike 30 years ago, today nobody is worried about getting a job. Many are even creating jobs."

He also expressed his confidence in start-ups having the potential to drive the IT revolution and said that for that, there should be more gender diversity, with women staff being recruited by small and medium enterprises.
