"It's my first trip to India and I see lot of opportunities here with number of talent and engineers that available here. That’s why we are here and hosting the Drupal camps in Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad," says Buytaert, who is also a co-founder and chief technology of Acquia.

"I am pleasantly surprised by the number of visiting the Drupal camps and it suggests, there's lot of interest and expertise here. But India's Drupal developers community is 2-3 years behind North America and Europe in terms of expertise," Buytaert notes.

"We are meeting system integrators and partners as Drupal is new to them. Today there’s a high demand of Drupal developers in India and other countries but the supply is very short," he adds.

According to Buytaert, there's lack of talent on Drupal and it requires educating the developers and making them aware. Though, Drupal is highly popular among developer communities globally, enterprises haven't full adopted it.

With a mission to bring Drupal to enterprises, Buytaert and Jay Batson co-founded Acquia in 2007. "Four years back, we started Acquia with aim to have a company that is similar to what Red Hat is to Linux,” he points out.

Acquia is a software startup with $ 35 million venture funding. It provides range of Drupal products and services to enterprises including Commons, Acquia Cloud, Acquia Network and Drupal Gardens.

IBM Global Services, Capgemini and Accenture are Acquia’s global partners and in India, company is engaging in talk with Wipro, Infosys and other system integrators.

How enterprises are adopting Drupal, Buytaert explains that most organizations have proprietary software licenses for content management systems but for small projects or micro sites within departments Drupal is used extensively.

"Acquia strategy is to go through partners and system integrators. We have 10 partners in India and they will bring customers for us; also will appoint few people for local presence in future,” he shares company’s India plans

"We are very bullish on India and will invest in educating and developing the Drupal community here, which will benefit local talent, companies as well as Acquia. But the challenge is to find enough people that can fuel that growth and so the objective is to train the people,” Buytaert concludes.
