Dell's Windows 8 tablets to cost $199

BANGALORE, INDIA: Dell, in a statement has said that its Windows 8 based tablets will not be cheap as expected. Officials at the company said that Dell would price the tablets starting at Rs. 10,000 ( $199). Dell was one of the first companies to announce the Windows 8 based tablets.

There were various speculations stating that the Windows 8 tablets from Dell would be low-cost ones (probably with a price-range starting from Rs 5,000). But with this statement, Dell has put an end to all speculations and also to people's expectations.

Sometime ago, Dell also had plans to manufacture Android-based tablets, but backed out from in the last minute. The leading computer manufacturer also said that since Windows matches its key business (which is computer manufacturing), it opted for the Windows 8 O.S rather than the Android..

The price of the Dell Windows 8 tablets will be announced after Microsoft makes the Windows 8 price official.

Industry insiders say that Dell would have grabbed more than the expected Tablet PC market share had it made the Windows 8 tablets low-cost ones. Even Microsoft (which desperately needs a revival) would have immensely benefited had the speculations about the low-cost Windows 8 Dell Tablets come true.
