SINGAPORE: Dell Computer Corp said on Monday that its revenues for the first
quarter, from February 5 to May 4, rose 42 per cent year-on-year and unit
shipments grew 65 per cent year-on-year for the Asia Pacific region.
Dell's Asia Pacific president Chip Saunders told Reuters in an interview that
the company's rate of growth in this first quarter was four times as fast as the
Personal Computer (PC) market for the Asia Pacific region as a whole.
"Our business model is an advantage," he said referring to Dell
Corp's direct sales model, which allows the computer maker to pass on lower
component prices to customers. Dell Corp is the world's number one PC maker.
Looking ahead Saunders said Dell was expected to show a strong performance
for the rest of this year. "In Asia we continue to see demand in the high
teens for the balance of the year (for the whole market). We expect Dell to
perform at a strong multiple of this," Saunders said.
