NEW DELHI: Dell, provider of Intel architecture server worldwide has unveiled
a range of new servers and storage products. The latest suite includes the
general-purpose servers, the second generation PowerApp line of appliance
servers and a network attached storage products and storage area network
products. The general-purpose server includes PowerEdge 350 and PowerEdge 1550.
The PowerEdge 1550 provides enhanced performance, availability and
scalability and incorporates dual Pentium III processors. This apart, it also
incorporates independent 64 bit /66MHz PCI buses for faster throughput, up to 4
G B of RAM when available and up to 3 one- inch SCSI hard drives for a total
capacity up to 108 GB.
The PowerEdge 350 supports single Intel Celeron or Pentium III processor and
as many as two IDE hard disk drives. The PowerEdge 350 consumes less power than
the PowerEdge 1550.The PowerEdge 1550 and PowerEdge 350 are priced at Rs 1.47
lakh and Rs 90, 000 respectively.
The second generation PowerApp line of appliance servers includes the
PowerApp.web 110 and the PowerApp.web 120. These are Web server appliances that
can be deployed faster and can run on either Windows Powered IIS 5.0 or Linux
Apache 1.3.12.
The PowerApp.web 120 is built on the same high-performance hardware platform
as the PowerEdge 1550, while the PowerApp.web 110 is a cost effective
Linux-based Web server that supports a single Intel Celeron processor and up to
two IDE hard disk drives. The PowerApp.web 110 and PowerApp.web 120 are priced
at Rs 96,563 and Rs 1.47 lakh respectively.
In the network attached storage (NAS) segment the company launched series of
PowerVault products. These include PowerVault 735N, PowerVault 701N and
PowerVault 705N. The PowerVault 735N is a highly scalable, allowing customers to
expand storage capacity online while having access to data and without
compromising productivity due to downtime. It is priced at Rs 6.45 lakh.
The PowerVault 701 N is Dell's deskside NAS system for small needing a
minimal amount of storage. The system offers 60 GB storage capacity and is
available at a price of Rs 1.03 lakh. The PowerVault 705N, which was originally
announced with a 120 GB storage capacity last October, is now being offered with
240 GB of storage and is priced at Rs 3.12 lakh.
This apart, the company also launched PowerVault 660F, storage area network
(SAN) product. It is a new rack-optimized storage array based on Fiber Channel
Technology for fast data transfer and advanced data protection features. It
consists of 14 Fiber Channel disk drives. Dell will offer the SAN hardware,
software, service and support in optimized bundled configurations with prices
commencing at less than Rs 721,470 for an entry level, high availability SAN.
Speaking at the launch, Dell Computer Corporation director (Asia Pacific)
Simon Penny said "With the introduction of our next generation PowerVault,
the company offers customers competitive price-performance with best available,
scalable and highly available storage."
