Dell to enter Indian smartphones market

BANGALORE, INDIA: Global PC maker Dell today announced that it was planning to sell its smartphones in India.

As per media reports, the PC company will follow Apple and Research in Motion to the India's smartphone market, the company has announced. The company is seeking channel partners for distribution.

Mahesh Bhalla, head of Dell’s operations in India, said in a statement, “India is one of the key markets for Dell consumers and as we work on the plans to bring the smart phones to this market, we continue to explore various go-to-market options.”

According to telecom regulator TRAI, the Indian telecom industry already had 618 million mobile-phone accounts at the end of May 2010 and is expected to have more than 771 million users by 2013.
