Dell representatives present at the interactive round table explained that although e-commerce provides ample opportunities to both merchants and retail organizations, the platforms are also vulnerable to cyber attacks. These attacks range from intellectual property theft, fishing, Spearnext, DDoS, APT which results in business disruption and ultimately brand and reputation damage.

Amit Singh, Country Head, Dell SonicWall said that attackers are attempting to breach e-commerce applications and networks to steal payment card information, as well as proprietary information on products and manufacturing processes. The hacktivists either directly sell the information to other cyber criminals or competitors, for financial gain.

According to Singh, due to increased consumer and business demands, the IT managers in e-commerce organizations are faced with increased pressure to improve website responsiveness, uptime, page load times, shopping cart functionality and other critical day-to-day needs. They also have to factor in compliance laws by various regulatory bodies, especially for intellectual property, customer data, payment card data and critical operations sytems, while drafting security policies.

Speaking about the company's offerings for the e-commerce segment, Singh noted that the company, through its partners , offers a full suite of products and services including network and application audits through information security risk assessments and penetration tests, as well as Web application assessments.
