HYDERABAD: Hardware giant Dell
Inc., within few weeks will come up with an announcement disclosing the
location of its proposed manufacturing unit in India. Romi Malhotra, the
managing director, Dell International Services, revealed this on the sidelines
of launching Dell Computer Centre here on Monday.
“We are in talks with some state governments and an announcement will be made
in the next few weeks,” said Malhotra. After the setting up of the
manufacturing unit Dell will save costs as it will come closer to the customer,
hoped Malhotra. “There will be advantages on the logistical front,” added
Malhotra.
Dell Inc., in association with HOPE Foundation launched the first Dell Computer
Centre in Hyderabad on Monday. The centre will provide computer education to the
under-privileged students in the city.
The Dell Computer Centre, located at the HOPE Foundation facility, was formally
inaugurated by Malhotra. “We have made Hyderabad home for the last few years
and we continue to grow here. We have a resolve to actively contribute to the
local community,” said Malhotra, after inaugurating the centre.
“This is our commitment to global citizenship and our vision of bridging the
digital divide by utilizing Dell technology. The Center is part of our endeavor
to enable children from under-served sections of the society to acquire IT
knowledge and progress in this digitally driven world,” added Malhotra.
Thirty desktop computers will be used to train the students from the backward
classes at the centre, which has been set up with funds from HOPE Foundation.
Ashok Prabath, chief program officer, HOPE Foundation said, “The Dell Computer
Center will bring in cutting edge technology that will allow us to impart
knowledge in a more impactful way.”
