Dell center for science inaugurated in Chandigarh

BANGALORE, INDIA: Dell inaugurated its first Center for Science, equipped with state of the art science lab facilities, at the Sikhya: The School of Learning today. The new Dell Center for Science has been established with the purpose of awakening the spirit of scientific experimentation among the underserved children of Chandigarh. Ray Roman, Vice President, Global Consumer Services & Support, Dell Inc inaugurated the center in the presence of Ganesh Lakshminarayan, Managing Director, Dell International Services.

Set up with funds from Dell Foundation at the approximate cost of Rs 10 lakh, the center comprises of state-of-the-art general science laboratories for Physics, Chemistry and Biology and has been designed as a space where children can experiment and participate in scientific demonstrations. The Dell Center for Science meets the Central Board of Secondary Education’s mandatory requirement of a laboratory facility where students of seventh standard and above can conduct experiments.

“India has always been home to some of the brightest scientific minds. With the opening of the Dell Center for Science and Innovation at the Sikhya School, we hope to extend the spirit of scientific experimentation among the underserved children in Chandigarh and keep alive the scientific temperament that India has come to be associated with”, said Ray Roman, Vice President, Global Consumer Services & Support, Dell Inc. 

Sonia Channi, Principal, Sikhya School said, “We want to encourage our children with new innovations and thinking. The Dell Center Science & Innovation will help us disseminate knowledge in a more purposeful way with well-equipped lab facilities for students. I am thankful to Dell for choosing Sikhya School for their first Dell Centre for Science & Innovation.”

The new Dell Computer Center reaffirms Dell’s ongoing community outreach initiatives under h.u.g. program. h.u.g. stands for ‘Helping U Grow’ and it is Dell’s way of reaching out to the children of India. This program involves employee engagement and support for the communities through commitment of time, expertise and technology. Dell has set up several key initiatives under the h.u.g program including Dell Computer Centers in Bangalore (2), Hyderabad (2) and at the Institute for the Blind in Chandigarh and a Center of Science and Innovation at Bangalore.
