NEW DELHI: To combat the hassle of dial-up, bad connectivity and bandwidth, a

Delhi-based ISP MagnaCorp has launched high speed Internet services on Digital

Subscriber Line (DSL) besides offering Net connectivity through Wireless in

Local Loop. The service is targeted at professionals and companies using the Net

at least three hours a day. While users will not have to pay any telephone

charges though they will have 24-hour connectivity through the ISP, they have to

shell out a one-time installation cost of Rs 15,000 besides a monthly charge of

Rs 5,000. The installation cost includes the cost of a DSL modem supplied by

Lucent Technologies. The Net through DSL offers a bandwidth from 128 kbps to 7

mbps.

For the Net over WLL, the recurring monthly cost vary from Rs 2,500 to Rs

5,000 depending upon the bandwidth (35 kbps to 70 kbps) sought. The initial cost

of Rs 10,000 in this case is that of a wall set radio, procured from the HFCL.

MagnaCorp, which has been an MTNL franchisee for providing group EPBAX

connections in the capital since 1995, will launch the service under the name of

Datataps.

The ISP has plans to expand to other states like Hyderabad, Karnataka, etc

besides setting up 100 Internet cafés in Delhi in the next three months. The

cafes will be connected through DSL with one of the 16 nodes here. Says Ajay

Nimani, President of MagnaCorp, " We have studied the market in Delhi and

it has the potential for 2000 such high speed Internet cafes. As, the future is

that of shared access than of an individual for one does not need to own a PC

and the Net connection."
