Delhi Government to leverage UIDAI for cash subsidy on food

NEW DELHI, INDIA: Delhi government has planned for the first cash subsidy on food security on UIDAI platform. The ambitious scheme will be unveiled on December 15 by Delhi CM Sheila Dixit. This, however, will be aimed at 2 lakh families and retrospective effect from April 2012.

''2 lakh families have been identified by Gender Resource Centre at 140 locations. A cash amount of Rs 600 per month will be given to women to facilitate empowerment," Dixit informed. This, she said, would be a new benefit to be given, and transfers would be electronically done.

Delhi government is expected spend around Rs 150 crore for this initiative during the current fiscal. The scheme will help women who were not covered under BPL or other scheme.
