The gang-rape and the subsequent protests certainly have a far wider impact on social media. The youth who braved the tear gas shells and police lathis aren't shying away from sharing their experiences beyond what's shown on television cameras.

Police tried to silence the protests at Jantar Mantar by allegedly arresting the protesters, including Shambhavi and 16 other women, but that wasn't to be. Shambhavi has been Tweeting non-stop since Tuesday evening. "All of us women were just brutally attacked by police at Parliament Street PS, PLS RT."

"It is a traumatizing experience to be dragged and beaten and threatened by cops, I was too scared to tweet," she writes. "We were kept in some creepy little room with no food, no water." Moreover, the women were locked in a room and guarded by the entire police station force.

She goes on to write that police were trying to force them to admit that they were wrong.

"Police asking us to sign a guarantee that we were wrong, then we will be released," she tweets.

After the release on Tuesday, when women demanded to know why they were arrested, SHO, Om Prakash said: "I don't want argue with you, go away now."

And at one time, a female constable said to Shambhavi's friend: 'yahan law nahi chalta'.
