Delhi firm manufacturing fake Mercury speakers, alleges Kobian

BANGALORE: Beware! Fake, Mercury brand speakers - MS 340 and MS 440 - are available in the market. Kobian India Pvt Ltd, which manufactures and markets Mercury brand of IT products, has claimed that a Delhi-based company is manufacturing fake Mercury speakers and selling it in the Indian market.

Giving details, Rohit Verma, Deputy Manager-Marcom, Kobian India Pvt Ltd. said, " We came to know about this in March 2000 itself. We studied the whole thing. We have authentic information about the manufacturer of these fake speakers. He belongs to Delhi. Shortly, we are taking legal action against this manufacturer. On this front, we are facing few difficulties, as the manufacturer is not issuing any receipt for his sale." He, however, declined to name the person who is allegedly manufacturing fake speakers.

Commenting about the differences between the original and fake speakers, Verma said that spurious brand does not have the same style and font as original, however color is the same." Fabric used is not as fine as the one used in original, performance is very dismal and of poor quality, printing on packing box does not have clarity. Overall, the finished product is aesthetically not as good and `Quality Check’ sticker is not found on the rear side of the speakers" he added.

Original speakers are available in Indiam market for Rs 500 whereas spurious brand is priced around Rs 350. According to the company, spurious brand is available in Delhi, Bangalore and Hyderabad.
