Decos to produce audiometers in India

PUNE, INDIA: After tapping India for offshore software development, Dutch major Decos Technology Group is looking to make the Indian arm as its manufacturing base.

Initially the move would be for its flagship product Decos audiometers for which it already has two customers. The company is looking at a market of 60 audiometers a year in the next three years out of the total market potential of 250 audiometers per year.

Decos also has expansion plans for its outsourcing services in India in the next three years. The production capacity would be around 90 units with a target to achieve six audiometers sale in India in the first year.

The company plans to export the rest to Decos US and Decos Netherlands. The high-end Decos Audiology Workstation has been deployed at an audiology institute in Bangalore while another deal is expected in the next seven days in another healthcare institute in South India, revealed Ankur Parikh, managing director, Decos Software Development India.

"We expect to cover a lot of terrain in India with no immediate competition in sight. For the local market, local manufacturing would be ideal in light of some issue on hardware manufacturing and the first production would be ready by March end."

Another key product is its car tracking system that would see a domestic market push later. "We are not convinced with the quality and availability of maps right now," he reasoned.

Speaking on the sidelines of inauguration of its new facility, Parikh said that the company plans to increase the headcount from 65 to 100 people in the six to eight months.

Decos also aims to add 14 customers in 2008 to its current kitty of 12 clients. This year the company would venture into the US market starting with smaller projects reflecting a shift from product to project in terms of strategy.

After growth stabilizes in Pune, new facilities at Ahmedabad and Nasik are in the offing. Decos launched India operation in 2000.

Since 1997 Decos is based in Noordwijk, a seaside resort, situated between Amsterdam and The Hague. Initially started as IT services company, it gradually transformed itself as IT products company.

Its portfolio includes products like document management system, GPRS based vehicle tracking solution and PC based Audiometer – Decos Audiology Workstation.
