In these tough times, this Chennai-based company has come out with innovative measures to tackle the challenges of economic slowdown.

According to Sudha Jagadish, chief operating officer, Dax Networks, effective utilization of power resources, avoiding unwanted printing of materials and emails, well-planned material movement avoiding extra transportation charges, sending mass mailers instead of unnecessary greetings avoiding courier charges are some innovative measures that Dax has adopted to tackle the tough times during economic slowdown.

“Dax has already adopted a virtual model of working from home (field associates working from home across India). We also conduct a weekly review for the field executives through tele-conferencing in order to ensure that the field is in track with the projects being handled,” says Sudha Jagadish.

She said this pre-planned working model has helped the company in reducing unwanted traveling charges. By initiating these methods, Dax has geared up to handle the needs of employees and customers in this time of recession thereby saving a reasonable expenditure and resulting in effective utilization of resources. For Dax, going green is also a part of the cost-cutting measures.

Some of the green measures adopted by Dax include environmental-friendly packaging instead of polybags/plastics, recycled cable boxes, products with RoHS compliant, sales kits made of eco-friendly jute bags.

“Dax Product design is such that technology upgradation can be done through software without changing the hardware. This design aspect is one green imitative we take to increase the usability of the product,” says Sudha Jagadish.

“We offer buy-back schemes to pull back old modems which are then directed to e-waste management centers.”

The Dax COO said by effective utilization of power resources the company was able to bring down the power consumption reasonably, leading to savings both in terms of power and expenses.

“There has been a reduction in travel expenditures. Mass mailers and well-planned material management helped us to drastically bring down the courier and shipping charges,” she says.

All these measures have helped Dax see a minimum of one per cent savings in terms of the over all expenditure of the company.

“By adopting these measures, we have indirectly gained employee confidence in the time of recession. Since we were already well planned and organized in our way of working, recession did not affect our company to a greater context .The only difficulty we had was in terms of decision making,” says Sudha Jagadish.
