NEW DELHI: Datapro has tied up with Verio to offer Web-related services like domain registration, domain parking, Web hosting on a shared or dedicated server as well as managing commerce-enabled Web-sites in India. Verio is one of the largest domain-based hosting company based in USA. The Web hosting market worldwide is estimated to grow to $6 billion by the year 2001 while the market for the same in India is estimated to be at Rs 150 crore by 2001. However, Datapro CMD, Rajeev Arora, added that it was difficult to estimate the size of emerging markets. According to a survey carried by Datapro, there are more than 6000 Internet Presence Providers (IPPS) in the world and most Indian companies having a Web presence did not know where their Web sites were being hosted.

The tie-up with Verio is in line with Datapro's overall internet strategy. Last year, Datapro launched its ASP initiative by tying up with Citrix to provide services on its thin client servers. Its initiative to host Web sites on Verio's servers will compliment the ASP initiative. Initially, Verio's services will be directed at Web designers, Web hosting companies, advertising agencies, small ASPs, and training institutes. At $100 per month, Verio's virtual server will enable the same control and manageability as dedicated servers at other sites, which cost $700-$1000 per month. Datapro will market Verio's services through its 900 channel partners and 215 educational franchisee partners.

Listed on the Nasdaq, Verio hosts more than 2,60,000 sites globally and has been rated as a top IPP by several Web sites. "WebHostList.com," which evaluates the IPPs every month, has rated Verio as the #1 IPP site consistently for last several months. "Internet Weather" has rated Verio as the #1 in customer site, while "Keynote" has rated Verio as the fastest Internet backbone in the world. Verio operates in 170 countries and is one of the five companies having tier 1 Internet backbone network. All the network exchange points are connected to this backbone. It has set up 40 data centers with a central network-operating center in Dallas.
