Datamatics development center in China

BANGALORE: IT consulting and services firm Datamatics Ltd today said it has signed an agreement with DarwinSuzsoft, an information technology and business process outsourcing (ITO)/BPO company in China, during the Suzhon Industrial Park (SIP): Gateway to Business in China seminar held here.

Addressing the media, Datatmatics said it in partnership with DarwinSuzsoft has set up a 20,000 sq. m. software development center in SIP, to provide software design engineering and quality assurance services.

The center would connect directly with the Datamatics’ US and Mumbai facilities to provide end-to-end solutions including BPO Data Capture/Entry work.

Rahul Kanodia, managing director, Datamatics, said that the both the companies jointly would invest $15 million on the development center over two years.

Currently, the center houses 50 software engineers and would up the headcount to 1500 employees in 18 months.

Wang Jinhua, party secretary of SIP Working Committee, said, “This is a significant step to take Sino-India bilateral relation ahead. SIP will provide all the incentives and necessary platform for ITO/BPO companies to flourish in China.”

Sun Yanyan, vice chairman of SIP Administrative Committee, said, “The SIP has been recognized as the one of the world’s nine new tech cities. China and India share similar goals and face huge bilateral opportunities and we are looking forward for win-win cooperation with India.”

“China being the second largest trade partner to India, they are targeting to increase the bilateral trade to $ 40 billion by 2010 from $20 billion in ‘06,” she added.

DC Zhang, director, Science and Technology Development Bureau, said that the percentage of Indian investment in China is minuscule. Majority of the investments are from US and European countries. “This is the first largest agreement between India and China and we look forward for more such cooperation.”

“In IT and software sector, we provide incentives to encourage investments. SIP provides start up fund or grants for the investing companies, rent free official space for three years to encourage investment in China.”

"We still don’t find more Indian companies coming to China. Further, SIP also filters for right people, company and its phase of investment to avail such incentives," he added.

Apart from Datamatics agreement, the seminar also witnessed another agreement between SIP and a Singapore-based consulting company Singapore to work together to bring business in China.

SIP is a cooperative project developed by the governments of China and Singapore. More than 2700 foreign companies and 10000 local companies have selected SIP.
