While attending a media conference here on Thursday to announce the Indian operations, Data Domain executives said that the customers in India now have an option to have a secure backup and selective replication.

“DD offers a range of products to meet the back up to the storage needs of all the enterprises,” said C.Y.Tan, technical manager, systems engineering, Data Domain Inc.

As the industry expands world over, data backup and retrieval has become a subject of major concern. Data Domain is coming with a reliable option in that front, the company said while announcing its launch in Bangalore.

“Data duplication is a billion dollar market today,” said Sunny John, country manager, Data Domain. “Data domain has a wide variety of solutions to offer and can cater to various segments of business.”

He said that the data domain system comes with the extra protection measure that ensures accuracy and recovery to the stored data.

“Even if we get a backup, there is problem of whether it would be retrieved in time; there’s always a risk of data loss,” he pointed out and added that Data Domain’s de-duplication system is highly secure and over 5000 installed systems are functioning all over the world, without any complaint from its clients.

And also since the systems store each unique data sequence only once and save significant physical storage capacity by substituting small references for each identical redundant sequence, there is the advantage of massive data reduction, say the manufacturers.

“This way we reduce the utilization of bandwidth, as data transfer takes a fraction of the bandwidth,” adds Sunny John.

Data Domain’s DD690, a scalable de-duplication storage product, provides high scalability and reduces the dependency to tapes. It features revolutionized disk backup and remote office data protection with high speed and in-line data de-duplication.

Also the system occupies less space and consumes less energy that helping the companies manage the space constraints and also adding value to their green initiatives.

“With the advent of DD690 customers can reduce the dependency of tapes in the data centers and can have an infrastructure that is highly scalable for future needs,” said C.Y.Tan.
