MUMBAI: D-Link India is now beginning to set its eyes on the Indian router market. The company, which so far did not have a significant presence in this segment, would now be rolling out a number of products in the near future. "We will be increasing our offering in the router space in the days to come and hope to take a decent chunk away from Cisco's market share," said Anand C Mehta, Marketing Manager, D-Link India. Currently, Cisco enjoys a near-monopolistic status in the router market with over 80 percent market share.

According to Mehta, D-Link would be able to garner a reasonable market share by offering a wide range of value-for-money products. Understandably, D-Link would use pricing as its key USP. It is in this direction, D-Link also recently launched its wireless router called Airplus. Priced at Rs 19,000, the router incorporates silicon chip designs from Texas Instruments. The company is expected to launch more cable/DSL routers both of the wired and wireless kind by March and would leverage the growth in the IP telephony arena.
