Welcoming the delegates, ICT industry veteran and chief editor of the CyberMedia Group Prasanto K Roy said that the industry plays a key role in decarbonising the economy. “It makes sense to tap renewable energy as we move ahead,” he said.
“European Union (EU) has brought that idea, and huge shift is happening in the country today,” Roy said.
In the next decade, he said, the smart grids would make a differential impact. Therefore it’s critical to recognize it. The energy resources, he believes, would be drivers for the software and ICT sector. Roy also said that the country needs a policy framework to tackle the current crisis.
Greenpeace said that creating the industry leadership in the ICT domain has become imperative today. Samit Aich, executive director, Greenpeace, said that they need a policy and legislation at national and international levels. “Sustainable economic growth can’t be attained through dependence on fossil fuel and electricity,” he added.
