BANGALORE, INDIA: Online recruitment company Monster said that hackers had once again taken confidential information from its database, including usernames, passwords, telephone numbers, email addresses and some basic demographic data.

The stolen data did not include CVs, national insurance numbers or personal financial data, it said.

In an official statement, Monster's senior vice-president, Patrick Manzo said that the company has initiated an investigation and took corrective steps.

“It is important to know the company continually monitors for any illicit use of information in our database, and so far, we have not detected the misuse of this information.”

The statement also suggested customers to change their passwords when they next logged on to the website.

“We would also recommend you proactively change your password yourself as an added precaution,” said Manzo.

They were warned that hackers could use email addresses to "phish" for further information. Monster would never send an unsolicited email asking clients to confirm their username and password, it added.

This is for the second time in the last 18 months that personal data is being stolen from Monster. In August 2007, more than 1.3 million personal data was stolen, and emails have been sent out pretending to be from recruiters asking for bank account details to complete job applications.
