NEW YORK, USA: Cray Inc said it signed a contract worth more than $45 million to supply the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) with a next-generation supercomputer, sending its shares up 11 per cent in extended trade.
The multi-year, multi-phase contract with Los Alamos National Security LLC can be expanded if the NNSA exercises an option for a future upgrade, the company said.
The new system will create a new supercomputing platform, named Cielo, for the advanced simulation and computing program at the NNSA, Cray said.
Shares of Seattle-based Cray, which have gained 70 per cent in value over the last 52 weeks, were up 68 cents at $6.68 in extended trade. They closed at $6.04 Thursday on Nasdaq.
